29^th of September, italian metalworkers action day: 8 hours national strike and regional demonstrations, organised by Fim-Fiom-Uilm

This strike is in support of the national platform for the renewal of the national contract (only salarial part, as every two years): the platform, presented to the Employers Association (Federmeccanica) on the 14^th of January 2005, demands an increase of 130 euros monthly in two years. There have been until now 5 negociation meetings and 12 hours of strike.

The offer of the Federmeccanica is 60 euros (they offer something more in case that the employers become free to decide, without any negociation with the workers representatives – Rsu – total working time flexibility).

The strike was successful and thousands of workers took part in the demonstrations in different cities, in the north, center and south of Italy (in Milan : 40.000, in Naples : 10.000, Reggio Emilia 15.000, L’Aquila : 5.000, Torino: 20.000, Vicenza : 25.000, Taranto : 6000).

The next negociation meeting with Federmeccanica will be in Rome on the 4^th of October.
